Faucets, Fixtures and Sinks Installation and Repair

Plumbing is your home’s essential system, so even a seemingly minor issue can disrupt the entire home life. At times, everyone encounters a situation when a faucet, fixture, sink or another plumbing element needs to be repaired or replaced.

Most commonly, we have to deal with the following issues:

  • Dripping or running faucets
  • Running toilets
  • Clogged drains
  • Leaky pipes
  • Low water pressure

Faucets seem to be more likely to need a repair or replacement. The most common problems include dripping or running, low water pressure, rust, and mineral buildup. If a problem is only starting to appear, it can be fixed without replacement. However, if you continue to ignore it until things get much worse, you are less likely to avoid faucet replacement costs. Besides, a running faucet can give you a high water bill and pretty much drain your wallet. This should make you want to do something about it ASAP!

A running toilet is another common headache for household owners. It happens when the flapper valve, fill tube, and/or float fail to fit properly or become loose, mostly due to wear down or buildup of a calcium deposit. If you have noticed that your toilet lets through water when it should not, please, take steps to stop it. You may need to remove the buildup of replace one of these elements.

If your sink, bath, or tub drain has gotten clogged, water won’t go out fast enough. Once you notice that it is slow to go out, do something immediately: use a plunger, a drain cleaner or clog remover. In most cases, these work pretty well. However, there are things to remember: some drain cleaners, if used too frequently, may damage the drain pipe on the inside. In most cases, clogs occur when hair forms a clump down the drain or a large object falls into the drain hole.

A leak is as common a problem as it is frustrating, annoying and costly. Most frequently, leaks occur at joints. Having a batch of fillers, fittings and compression clamps at hand is a great idea. However, these can offer only a temporary help. Most likely, you are going to have to replace a length of pipe or the faulty fitting. This may require a professional assistance.

If water trickles instead of gushing from your faucets, it means that you have a low pressure in the pipe. This may occur due to a problem in the main line, which is outside of your house. Another common issue is a buildup of deposit inside pipes and/or on faucet aerators. A filtration system is a great prevention tool. If you have noticed that water is not running from your faucet as fast as it should be, unscrew the aerator and turn on the tap to see how fast it is now. You can put the aerator in a jar with vinegar for several hours to remove the deposit.

In some cases, a sudden drop in water pressure may indicate a leak in your system. This may require emergency assistance, because an intense leak can inflict serious damage and entail costs.

What can I do about it?

If you are intent of fixing it yourself, do the following:

  • Turn off the mains.
  • Get some clothes on that will prevent you from soaking. This kind of work is pretty messy.
  • If you are going to replace a part, take the old one to the store with you, so that you know what kind of part you need to purchase.
